Marche 27

If you're having a little hunger attack after a shopping session on St. Laurent, make a stop on the corner of Prince Arthur @ Clark (one block west of St. Laurent).
This cozy European style bistro, with high ceilings, marble tables is unique to this city. With its avant-garde cuisine, Marche 27's most distinguishing feature is the tartar bar. You can watch the chef prepare your choice of tartar in front of you. They offer salmon, smoked salmon, beef, duck and lamb, which are served in 5 different styles.
Besides tartar, there's a selection of salads, sandwiches, filet mignon...even jars of pickles, along with a selection of well priced wine!
So, when in need to try something new, relax, modern and mostly tasty in a nice atmosphere...remember...Marche27 ;)

It's TOO cold for that

Everyday I walk to and from work. I usually walk along maisoneuve to work then along st. catherine on my way home. One day i was on my way home and passed American eagle and in the window their mannequin was dressed in shorts and a tube top! This is early January. I was outraged for 2 reasons
1.) It was as if they were trying to remind me that in 3 weeks many students will be off to hot places for reading week and i won't be one of them

2.) I know in fashion it's important to be a head of the game but I can't imagine that putting out summer clothing in the start of january is really going to attract cutomers.
When i get my pay check i spend my money on sweaters and wool socks

I've started walking home on maisonneuve

Photograpy at it's best!

Good day everyone,

First week of January, I was suppose to attend my friends wedding in the Caribbean but health issues held me back. I was on Facebook this week-end and I took a look at her pictures. All I have to say is the pictures were very nice she looked elegant and the scenery was spectacular. I wish I could of partaken in such a joyous event. I like the fact that the photographer did not just take random pictures, it was displayed like a story. I always enjoy looking at pictures even if I don't personally know the individuals. I took a photography class a while back but I didn't enjoy it. I hated all the work I had to do but for some reason, I truly enjoy the site of a photo. So let me talk about this photographer. The photographer was very creative from start to finish. He begin with a photo of the wedding dress excluding the bride and ended right at the hall with the bride releasing the bouquet. He makes you feel like your watching a story without words. The ingenious layout and precise imagery will get me to use him for my wedding one day. So I would like to share my friends photo's @ the following link http://www.bmkphotoblog.com/ BTW, their is more than one wedding posted. The first one is the right one. Scroll down to the end of the first wedding photo's to view the slide. Enjoy!Looking forward to your feedback! :)

A Sad Story

I was reading a story on CNN couple day ago while at work. I was really troubled and saddened by this article. A man and his wife were terminated from there job, and Mr. Ervin Lopoe decided to first kill his wife and 5 children before taking his own life. Eldest daughter of age 8, first set of twin’s were 5 yrs old and the last set of twins were 2 yrs old. I just find it sad and disturbing that he felt like there was no option’s such as family, friends or even community assistance. I’m from a family of seven and I could relate to the tough times and challenges a large family can be faced with. I feel sorry for the family and friends and I’m saddened that he blames his former employer’s for the situation he was in. I hope this story will help anyone out that feels like their options are limited during trying times with or without financial constraints and employment difficulties, I’m sure we have all been placed into situations were we felt like our option have been limited. I know by reading this I’m happy to know that if I ever get into financial difficulties, close family and friends are just around the corner. If you get a chance, read this article in the link below;

A car accident ...

Never thought it could happen to me . It was scary and horrible thinking that i might died or that my life will be over in the next few seconds . I remembered all my life's good and bad moments ; 20 years an 20 seconds. Fortunately and luckily i survived that terrible car accident .

“ I'm very high class, which means I charge by the hour, and I charge a lot. ”

She is Hannah by day and Belle by night. "Secret Diary of a Call girl" chronicles a high-class hooker from London dealing with her double life. Belle is played by Billie Piper who delivers a witty and entertaining view to the adult industry. The series is based on the memoir "The Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl" by Belle du Jour. I recently got introduced to the series and I'm absolutely hooked. If you don't mind a little vulgarity, you should definitely check this show out. Although she is a callgirl, Belle still gives a sense of relativity towards the viewer in her daily life.
You can watch the trailer for show at...

I also fell in love with the Secret Diary soundtrack which offers a variety of music from indie rock to vocal jazz. Among the songs I found familiar favourites such as,"You Know I'm no Good" by Amy Winehouse and "Gimme,Gimme,Gimme" by Abba. I also came across a few new songs that I can't get enough of like,"Adventures of Solitude" by The New Pornograpers. You can check out the playlist for free on imeem at ...

Alexander McQueen Fall 2009

Transporting his audience to a gas-lit London street in the 19th century, Alexander McQueen showed a traditional, gentlemanly collection alive with craftsmanship and virility. "I wanted men’s wear to be more masculine, " he said.

I absolutely love every single piece from Alexander McQueen's Fall RTW 2009 show. Its very rare to see a man who dresses like a gentleman nowadays and this collection is so that. The leather, the fur, the watch fobs!

My favourite Fall show so far!

You can get pics from the rest of the show here : http://www.wwd.com/fashion-news/alexander-mcqueen-mens-rtw-fall-2009-1928872#/article/fashion-news/alexander-mcqueen-mens-rtw-fall-2009-1928872?navSection=fashion-news&tab=1

The Floor Lamp

I just watched an episode of Californication and once again I have noticed that a specific floor lamp that we sell at my place of work has been popping up in the background of movies and tv shows. I had no idea how popular this specific floor lamp was but this is at least the 5th time I have noticed it. People seem to love this lamp because we do sell a lot at work, but personally I do not think it is that great (especially for over $800). Does anybody agree with me?

The Art of Noise

Many new genres of music have been popping up these days. For example, what most of us would classify as house music might actually be: progressive, minimal, techno, trance, deephouse, tribal…Same for Rock, Alternative and Pop music. Artists these days are fusing all styles- making it hard to categorize music.

So, one cold Sunday night, I decided to fully change my musical playlist and made some interesting discoveries. A band that stuck out was MGMT, a dynamic duo from Brooklyn with something a quite exceptional. If you take one look at this oddball duo, you’d be forgiven for not knowing exactly what to think. They dress in 70s retro garb and paint weird shapes on their faces. But the opening track of their album: Time To Pretend, with it’s images of a hedonistic, idealistic and hippyish escape from the pressures of modern life, tells you exactly where they’re coming from. It is a given that, stoners worldwide will be lighting up whenever MGMT takes the stage.

Their song Electric Feel, with all its techno-swirls, loopy disco-patterns and the vocals become blissed-out, 70s soul harmonies. It’s absolutely brilliant and insanely catchy. Rapper Jim Jones even provided a remix, claiming it to be different and fresh. On a side note, it’s a great song to play on your i-pod when unable to sleep! It takes you to a warm, sunny and sexy place :P

MGMT is also in the top 10 most frequently played artists during the Spring/Summer 2009 Runway Shows: Dior RTW, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci (Men)…

Red Carpet Awards

Hey Everyone,
The SAG awards were Sunday and sure we are all interested in knowing who will win the awards but when it comes to these events I LOVE to watch the stars on the RED CARPET. The hair, the make-up, the accessories and... obviously the dresses!!!
I like to see how they look and which designer they are wearing. It gives us a sense of what to expect in the upcoming seasons in terms of styles and colors.
I think Kate Winslet looked really fabulous in that electric blue dress; it was a simple but very elegant dress! I also LOVED Teri Hatcher's dress which was a Monique Lhuillier dress which was a Pre-Fall 2009 dress.
As for the worst dressed; I won't go into detail with those because they are not very interesting but I can say some of those celebs chose very dull dresses which made them look dull and awful-sorry to say! lol

For those of you who didn't watch it you can click on the link for the SAG Best and Worst Dressed Awards!

Paulo Coelho

Hi everyone...this book inspired me alot and helped me to see the world in a different point of view. It begins with a glimpse or a passing thought, it ends in obsession. The book is called THE ZAHIR in Arabic 'zahir' means 'visible' ,'present',' incapable of going unnoticed'. It can refer to an object or a person, and that object or person gradually takes over our every thought, until we are unable to think of anything else. This could be considered a state of holiness or a state of madness. It's one thing to follow our dreams and to believe in the signs that guide us on our way. Then we have a goal to aim at, but we also enjoy the journey. With a Zahir we don't get that same feeling of joy with every step we take, only the stubborn desire to get what we believe to be necessary for us to live.
The truth is that we have developed certain values (money, power) which demand our total dedication and which justify our struggle and our life, but in fact they present us from stopping and asking ourselves : Am I Happy ?!
and it is asking ourselves if we are happy with what we are doing and the person whom we share our lives with that helps us to understand our fate .That takes a great deal of courage but believe me it worth it...

Thoughts

Michael Yanke-

I guess something that interests me and would like to share with others would be what I think is important, your thoughts. I never really gave much time to the things that have came out of my mind before, but then I started to read some self help books such as, As a Manthinketh, Think and Grow Rich and many more. Basically the concepts is, "Thoughts are things" and what you think about will eventually come to pass. All different thought's are categorized and placed in different sections of how they can affect your life. There is a saying "You can't lead a positive life and have negative thoughts." So as I became more and more interested I really feel that my life has altered a lot, and quite rapidly might I add. When I really wanted something like really bad and this is even before I was introduced to the book, the thoughts I had focused on had came to pass. Some people may think it will be such a big job to monitor your thoughts but it really isn't. I know what I want in life, and if I feel that I start to think of something else I know where to re focus myself. I think its a great practice, I feel better, healthier, and a better person. Its something I believe is important so I always try to remain positive even in times of despair. Always remember ... You never can tell what a thought will do. In bringing hate or love, for thoughts are things, and their airy wings, are swifter then carrier doves. They follow the law of the universe. Each thing creates its kind, And they speed o'er the track to bring you back what ever went out from your mind. Maybe this is not for everyone but this is how I choose to live my life.

Slumdog Millionaire

This weekend, with no projects due, no team meetings to attend and no laundry to do, I decided to do something I really enjoy: going to the movies. I watched Slumdog Millionaire, because I heard it had 10 Oscar nominations and won multiple Golden Globe awards. The best part is that after watching the film I realized that it indeed did deserve every award it received.
It is a movie that hits some very difficult themes, for instance poverty in developing countries, child abuse, corruption and violence. However, in the middle of it all there is a heartfelt love story and a driving pursuit for happiness. By the end of the film, I left the theatre feeling inspired by the characters that had to go through a rainstorm in order to get to the sunny side.
This film made me realize that intelligence is not only acquired by those that can afford a top of the line education. There is a difference between being a “book smart” and a “quick witted” and sometimes true intelligence is acquired when we get through our own experiences, when we take risks, when we make choices, when we lose what we love- things that we do not learn in school.
Slumdog Millionaire presents various strong values. I find that particularly appealing because I find that many of the recent films that I’ve seen revolve around society’s overwhelming obsession with power and wealth. However, this film touches a little deeper by the way the it presents the value of family, true friendship, the act of desperation for food and how people can live happily in the most humble way possible.
I don’t want to go into details about the movie because I don’t want to ruin it for you guys. This film was very enjoyable for me and I am anticipating the upcoming Academy Awards where I am sure Slumdog Millionaire will be recognized for its talented cast and crew.
For those of you who have not seen the film yet i highly recommend you get to a movie theatre and see it!!

Be The Change!

What can one person do to better there country!? When watching this video, I was truly inspired to take a pledge of my own, to make a difference. We are on this planet together and with Obama on our planet theirs hope for all! Not only the United States of America.
A pledge can be anything from:
  • promise solemnly and formally; "I pledge that I will honor my wife"
  • pay (an amount of money) as a contribution to a charity or service, especially at regular intervals; "I pledged $10 a month to my favorite radio station"
  • toast: propose a toast to; "Let us toast the birthday girl!"; "Let's drink to the New Year"
  • someone accepted for membership but not yet fully admitted to the group
  • give as a guarantee; "I pledge my honor"
  • a drink in honor of or to the health of a person or event
All you have to do is pick a project that you are passionate about and help! Obama is our inspiration! Make a pledge! :)

Jann 22 2009

Hey Everyone,

First time blogger here, I think it's really cool!! I want to comment on Januarry 22,09. The Academy Award nominations were out and Heath Ledger was nominated for supporting actor for his role in The dark Knight!!! I realized on the same day that marks 1 year of his passing! He most recently won for best supporting actor at the Golden Globes and I believe his daughter will be getting his award. I think it's important that she gets that award, one way for her to remember her father's talent! I found he was an amazing actor, glad to hear he was nominated, I really hope he wins, I am just sad he couldn't be here to acknowledge any of it!

Have a good one!

black for ysl.

Spending the day at the hair salon, involves pain staking hours of washes and shampoos, dyes and blow dries. But, today my experience went by rather fast and I came out a happy client as usual. During the entire process, I had the chance to catch up on some reading, of course with the old magazines hair salons stash on their coffee tables. i came across a clin doeuil article, which showcased black chunk jewlery and accesories and showcasing black as being a bold colour statement - especialy on lips!

Yves Saint Laurent came out with a pure black high in shine gloss. It looks kinda of freaky and a little unusual, but i am not going to lie, i kinda like it. its bold, its strong, its unique. i might not ever wear it, but as for a fashion show, i can see it being quite useful. According to the article, in sun light, it gives more of a purple effect, stating its just as wearable during the day than at night!

Anyways, it came out in fall 2008, but as i came across the article i found it kind of neat, since the colour black, a universal color, has been put on the map in a new and unique way. Instead of classic dark red lips, how about pulling a different kind of sexy and add a little black to your lips. i dont suggest you kiss anyone tho!

This is my favourite website of all time. I always feel so inspired by the beautifully captured photos. Its amazing how everyday people from halfway around the world can inspire so many fashion trends. My latest obsession is how men everywhere have started placing their gloves in the chest pocket of their coats...I think its adorable.

Ps. Did I just blog about a blog?..

Enjoy!
Amber M. Ryan

Hello!!!

It’s Barbara P, writing to say I’ve now tried this new blog! I have never written on a blog before but I guess there is a first time for everything! I am currently sitting at my work desk wondering what I could write about. I have always kept a kind of diary (although, I don’t like calling it diary…)!! I write everyday for 15 minutes whether it’s before I head off to work or after I come back from late classes at LaSalle College. I usually don’t think about what I will write. I just write about how I feel, what happened during that day, about certain moments or just random things. It kind of helps me in a way because I have been doing this for more than 4 years, and as I flip through my old notebooks, I realize how much I changed and all the things that I’ve accomplished since then on. The reason I started doing this was that I had a teacher in an English class tell all her students to buy a notebook and write everyday for 15 minutes without stopping to think. She always told us: “Just write about anything and if you don’t know what to write about then write “I don’t know what to write about”. And ever since that class, I just kept on buying more notebooks and have already filled up 5 of them! I take my notebook with me on EVERYWHERE! My friends sometimes laugh at me and say: “Why do you still keep a diary”? I keep on telling them and explaining that it’s not a diary! LOL I considered it more like an artifact book…The thing is, it’s kind of therapeutical to say the truth… and the best part is that it’s about me and I know I can write in it what I want, and whenever I want. I don’t know how long I will keep on doing this, but the teacher I had, has been doing it for more then 30 years and says that she still does… She is actually an author for kids right now but I know that she still teaches because every time she writes for the Gazette, she always mentions her students. Alright! Well I must get back to my work, just an hour and a half to go… In the mean time, hope you've got something good to read and interesting things to write about!
